The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to recall right-hander Julian Fernandez on Monday before the opener of a three-game road series against the Milwaukee Brewers, The Athletic reported.
No corresponding move was reported. Fernandez is not on the current 40-man roster.
Since last pitching in the major leagues in 2021, the hard-throwing 29-year-old has spent time in the minor leagues for three organizations, as well as pitching for Veracruz in Mexico last season.
The Dodgers signed Fernandez to a minor league contract in December and he has gone 3-0 with a 4.08 ERA in 24 appearances (two starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. He has 32 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings.
As a member of the Colorado Rockies in 2021, Fernandez had a 10.80 ERA in six relief appearances, which are the only big league outings of his career.
The Dodgers are dealing with a number of injuries, but in a reversal from earlier in the season, they have more concerns on the position player side. Tommy Edman has a small fracture in a pinky toe but can continue to play, according to manager Dave Roberts.
Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (foot) and utility man Enrique Hernandez (elbow) have more serious concerns and at least one could end up on the injured list, Roberts said Sunday. Third baseman Max Muncy (knee) went on the injured list Thursday.
Right-hander Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) is expected to return to the starting rotation during a weekend series at San Francisco, while left-hander Blake Snell (shoulder) and right-hander Blake Treinen (forearm) are due back shortly after the All-Star break.
